Many women who seek cosmetic surgery do so for the purposes of not just changing the shape of their body or having fat removed, but also in effort of removing cellulite.
The specifics as to how this may or may not work though depend on the type of cosmetic surgery being performed. It’s not as easy as simply “removing” cellulite, despite what some proponents may claim.
Smart Lipo has gotten a lot of attention in this regard, as many have attested to its effectiveness in removing cellulite. The truth is it may or may not remove cellulite when it comes to you, your body specifically, and what area of the body is being treated for cellulite.
Smart Liposuction (and other cosmetic surgery treatments) can in a broad sense lessen the overall amount of cellulite, as well as tighten sagging skin. However, it’s unlikely that a large amount of visible cellulite will be removed from the body via Smart Liposuction. It is not removable or targetable in the way fat cells can be targeted and removed, and the surgery doesn’t use any sort of any cellulite lotions or creams to target it.
It seems there is even some what of a shaky consensus on the issue between both patients and surgeons. One user writers on a forum for plastic and cosmetic surgery that she had recently received smart lipo on her thighs thinking it would help the cellulite but so far “I don’t see any difference.” Another person writes that although the cellulite didn’t go away entirely “I do see a big difference.”
Doctors can’t seem to agree precisely on the issue either. Dr. Placik of Chicago states on a popular health site that “It is a complex problem which is not completely understood.” He also says that when a doctor implements the techniques for liposuction, including smart or laser liposuction, well, that the results of the surgery “does not usually make cellulite better or worse.”
Dr Hansen of Beverly Hills adds that traditional (as in older) liposuction techniques actually can make cellulite worse, but the newer tumescent liposuction procedure is done in such a way that “the effect is to smooth cellulite some.”
Where does this leave the individual seeking to remove cellulite from their bodies? I think a productive approach is leverage the benefits of liposuction for what they were intended for – removing fat, tightening the skin, and sculpting the body – and not place too much expectation on its effect for cellulite.
