Smart Liposuction represents another break through in the refining and improvement of different liposculpture and body contouring techniques that have been developing for decades. For our purposes here, we can define Smart Lipo as a device used in laser liposuction to dissolve fat cells, which are then usually suctioned out of the body and removed.
The FDA approved the use of this laser technology that makes up the Smart Liposuction technique in late 2006. It was approved as a method for fat dissolution and removal in conjunction with the liposuction technique. The United States has seen a surge in growth in Smart Lipo procedures since then, whereas this technique had actually already been in abundant use for a few years in other places outside the United States, such as Europe.
Smart Liposuction is a less invasive procedure than the liposuction procedures before it. Some claim that it involves no incisions, but this is not exactly true. A tiny incision in the flesh is still made to insert what’s called a cannula into the body, of which it then “shoots” the laser out of to target the fat cells. These fat cells heat up and swell until they burst into a fatty oil! Depending on the amount of fat being targeted, the surgeon then will either suction it out to remove it from the body directly, or, as it’s safer to do so with smaller amounts, the doctors may leave the liquefied fat in the body, and the body itself will remove it on its own, as it would any waste product.
Another perk of Smart Liposuction, and reason why people compliment their standard lipo surgery with Smart Lipo, has to do with something called collagen. This protein plays a strong role in strengthening and firming the skin. The lasers used in Smart Lipo actually trigger the body to produce additional collagen! This results in the treated area being tightened more so than it otherwise would without Smart Lipo, and it happens as a natural by product of the technique without any additional surgery or action from the doctors inside the body.
Through the use of its laser technology for destroying and assisting in the removal of fat, Smart Lipo results in a less invasive liposculpture procedure. This is important for two reasons. First, it reduces the risk levels inherent in the surgery as compared to more invasive lipo techniques. Secondly, it means an easier, quicker recovery experience for the patient, post-surgery. These two facts about Smart Liposuction have helped propel it to the forefront of the cosmetic surgery industry in just 3 years, as it benefits everyone involved to have a less risky procedure with faster recovery – one of which also produces excellent results!
